Hope Through the Darkness

“Since neither sun nor stars appeared for many days, and no small storm was assailing us, from then on all hope of our being saved was gradually abandoned.” (Acts 27:20)

Earthly hope is based upon what we can see.  If the storm gets big enough and the stars no longer give their light, we lose our compass, and hope fades away.  Two-hundred seventy-six souls prepared to drown to death on Paul’s ship because all the evidence pointed that way.

But our hope isn’t in earthly things.  God can do whatever He wants.  Set your mind on the things above, and your hope will be tethered to stronger things.

Matthew 4:4 #Biblebites

Today’s Reading: Acts 27:13-20

Questions to ask:

  1. How does this show the continuation of Jesus’ work now going on in the church?
  2. How is the gospel, Paul’s preaching, and/or Paul’s defense received?
  3. What is the Holy Spirit doing in this text?
  4. What in our reading shows how Paul handled adversity and difficulty?

This year, #Biblebites are following the life and writings of Paul.  If you would like a copy of the reading schedule, you can view it here: https://eastlandchristians.org/news-events/2023-vision
