Perspective Matters

“…the old men who had seen the first temple, wept with a loud voice when the foundation of this house was laid before their eyes, while many shouted aloud for joy, so that the people could not distinguish the sound of the shout of joy from the sound of the weeping of the people, for the people shouted with a loud shout, and the sound was heard far away.” (Ezra 3:12-13)

Perspective matters.  The old men of Israel thought about what they had lost.  The young men thought of what glorious days lay ahead.  Perspective.

We can think about what we’ve lost, or we can think about where we are going.  We can dwell on the “good ol’ days”, or we can try and make today the good days, too.

It’s understandable to mourn what was lost, and the pain of the old men over the memories of Solomon’s temple was real and hard.

But, remember the next generation had their own battles to fight, and they needed hope to do it.  Hope is a potent armor against the struggles of life, and every generation needs it if they are going to walk by faith.
