Bible Bites
Stick Your Neck Out
“…and if I perish, I perish.” (Esther 4:16b)
Esther gets it. Some things are worth dying for. If Esther died trying to save other lives, that would have been tragic, but honorable. The real tragedy is when people live their whole lives just trying to stay out of trouble and never stick their necks out for what they believe in.
A life lived without conviction isn’t really lived; it’s endured. Esther was a young woman when she faced death for her convictions, and history records her as a great woman of faith and character. She decided some things were worth risking it all for.
Christ tells us that we must “forsake all” to be His disciples. He probably won’t ask you to give everything up to serve Him, but we better be ready to. After all, some things are worth dying for, and if they are worth dying for, they are worth living for, too.
