“The Spiritual Disciplines Mean DOING Something”
So far, we have talked about three of the seven spiritual disciplines we plan to cover in 2018: prayer, self-examination & confession, and fasting. Still to come: meditation, solitude, study, and sacrifce & giving.
I know that many of you have already been practicing these and improving in your walk with God as a result, but I think it might be helpful for all of us to get a small, steady drip to remind us about them. These disciplines are not just subjects of study for their own academic value; they are meant to be practiced.
So, make some time today to try out one of the ones we've talked about already. Do some self-exams, and confess your sins to God as needed. Pray. Set a fast from food or another of God's blessings so you can devote yourself to God's presence. Make time in your schedule to read the Bible out loud. Delve deep into a study of something you're unfamiliar with in the Scriptures (I'm working on Isaiah today). Just a make a point to do something that has a deliberately spiritual bent to it. You'll be blessed because you did.
